Caring for your sheepskin:
About Real Sheepskin Wool
Ounce for ounce sheepskin wool products are stronger than steel. Your sheepskin items will last for years, with minimum care, by brushing and shaking them out or by vacuuming. Impossible to copy synthetically, sheepskin and its wool fibers offer an astounding list of natural qualities. And they make great gifts.
They are warm in the winter and cool in the summer and prevent excessive sweating when you sit on them, providing natural comfort you find only in real sheepskin. That is why they are so popular used as seat covers on cars, trucks, planes, motorcycles and any place you sit. They are also good for healing and preventing bed sores.
Sheepskin Wool
…does not shed, because it's attached to the skin. It’s not woven and then brushed up, like wool pile fabric that’s loose enough to be pulled out or worn off. Sheepskin wool is embedded into the leather… resists snags, tears, wrinkles, soiling and piling… drapes beautifully; never sags and retains shape… is static-free… is flame resistant… is wind proof… is a natural moisturizer due to the high content of lanolin in the wool… is naturally water resistant and is washable. Sheepskin wool is a pure organic product and is unlike any other fiber in the world.
Washing / Cleaning
Long pile sheepskin rugs rarely need to be machine washed. Vacuum your sheepskin rug as you would any rug. Most dust, dirt and spills remain on the upper surface of the sheepskin wool fibers. If something sticky is found on the sheepskin rug, you can clean it up using suds from mixing liquid soap and water together. If urine is the problem, we recommend using “urine gone” or a similar product on our sheepskin products.
We recommend the following method to clean our sheepskin rugs:
Drying
Dry our sheepskin products over a line, air dry out of direct sun. It is a good idea to stretch out your skin by pulling firmly around all sides as it dries, not too hard however. Washing and drying can take a bit of the original luster out of a skin, so you might want to spot shampoo and rinse if you get a small dirty area.

We recommend the following method to clean our sheepskin rugs:
- Vacuum the sheepskin.
- Brush the sheepskin with a medium firm wire brush (example: a dog brush) to keep the wool fibers separate and prevent matting.
- Spot clean any stains with dishwashing soap and water as soon as possible after they occur. Use a little water in a bowl with 10% dish washing soap. Use a white terrycloth, like a wash rag, then rinse area with clean water, wipe dry with terrycloth. Do not try to wash entire rug in a washing machine due to agitation. This will destroy the rug.
